Loading Rheostat 12KW

Product Code : SCL-PLE-11823

Quick Answer: The Loading Rheostat 12KW is a high-power lab rheostat: a floor-standing, fan-cooled variable resistive load rated at 12 kW (12,000 W) continuous, used to load generators, transformers and industrial power supplies under test.

Last updated: 18 October 2026

Key Features

  • Continuous rating of 12 kW (12,000 W), dissipated as heat.
  • Forced-air cooling from built-in industrial fans.
  • Resistive elements held on high-temperature ceramic supports with vitrified components.
  • Over-temperature thermal cutout and an emergency stop.
  • Ventilated steel enclosure that stands on the floor and moves on industrial castors.

How It Is Used

The rheostat is connected across the output of the generator, transformer or power supply being tested, and the load is increased in stages up to its 12 kW limit. Voltage and current readings at each stage show how the source behaves under a controlled, variable load, while the fans remove the heat produced.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much power can the Loading Rheostat 12KW absorb?

It is rated for 12 kW (12,000 W) continuous. The energy is turned into heat and carried away by forced-air cooling from built-in fans.

What protection does the Loading Rheostat 12KW have?

An over-temperature thermal cutout and an emergency stop. The resistive elements sit on high-temperature ceramic supports.
